This guide explains how to use Templates and Platforms effectively in PhotoTager to streamline your metadata workflow.

Templates Overview

Templates control how PhotoTager generates metadata for your media. They define the tone, style, length, and other characteristics of your titles, descriptions, and keywords.

Why Templates Matter

  • Consistency: Maintain a consistent style across all your media
  • Optimization: Create templates optimized for specific niches or platforms
  • Efficiency: Save time by applying the same settings to multiple projects

Creating and Managing Templates

Creating a New Template

  1. Go to the "Templates" section in the main menu
  2. Click "Add New Template"
  3. Configure the following settings:

Basic Settings

  • Name: Give your template a descriptive name
  • Description: Optional notes about the template's purpose

Tone and Style

  • Tone: Choose from options like Professional, Casual, Creative, etc.
  • Style: Select Descriptive, Minimalist, Narrative, etc.

Length Control

  • Title Length: Set minimum and maximum word counts
  • Adobe Title Length: Set specific length for Adobe Stock titles
  • Description Length: Set length parameters for descriptions

Content Settings

  • Keywords: Default keywords to include (e.g., "nature, landscape")
  • Industry: Specify your industry for more relevant results
  • Custom Terms: Terms to include in generation
  • Excluded Terms: Terms to avoid

AI Settings

  • AI Model: Choose between OpenAI (GPT) or Claude
  • Temperature: Control creativity vs. consistency (0.0-1.0)

Special Options

  • Title Capitalization: Option for ALL CAPS titles
  • Video Slow Motion: Add "Slow motion" prefix to video titles

Managing Templates

  • Edit: Click on any template to modify its settings
  • Delete: Remove templates you no longer need
  • Set Default: Make a template your account default

Platforms Overview

Platforms determine how your metadata is formatted for export to different stock photo websites. They define the CSV structure and field mappings.

Pre-configured Platforms

PhotoTager comes with several pre-configured platforms:

  • Shutterstock
  • Adobe Stock
  • Alamy
  • Getty Images
  • iStock
  • Dreamstime
  • And more...

Creating Custom Platforms

If you use a platform not included by default:

  1. Go to the "Platforms" section
  2. Click "Add Custom Platform"
  3. Configure the following:
  4. Name: Platform name
  5. Description: Optional notes
  6. CSV Format: Define column headers separated by commas
  7. Include Keywords: Toggle keyword inclusion

Using Templates and Platforms Together

Assigning to Projects

When creating a new project:

  1. Select a template from the dropdown menu
  2. Choose platforms to include for export
  3. Create your project with these settings

Changing Templates/Platforms

To change the template or platforms for an existing project:

  1. Open the project
  2. Click "Edit Project" in the sidebar
  3. Select a different template or modify platform selections
  4. Save changes

Default Settings

To save time, set defaults in your profile:

  1. Go to "Settings" > "Defaults"
  2. Select your preferred template and platforms
  3. New projects will use these settings automatically

Template Optimization Tips

For Commercial Stock

  • Use the "Professional" tone
  • Choose "Descriptive" style
  • Set moderate title length (5-10 words)
  • Include commercial keywords

For Editorial Content

  • Select "Journalistic" tone
  • Use "Factual" style
  • Include location and date information
  • Focus on descriptive rather than conceptual keywords

For Creative/Artistic Work

  • Try "Creative" or "Imaginative" tone
  • Select "Atmospheric" or "Narrative" style
  • Use longer descriptions
  • Include emotional and conceptual keywords

Platform-Specific Tips

Shutterstock

  • Titles: Keep concise (5-7 words)
  • Keywords: Include 25-30 relevant keywords
  • Description: Be detailed but avoid keyword stuffing

Adobe Stock

  • Use the specialized Adobe Title field
  • Focus on descriptive, literal titles
  • Keep descriptions factual and straightforward

Getty/iStock

  • More selective with keywords (15-20 max)
  • Emphasize quality over quantity
  • Focus on concept and context in descriptions

Best Practices

  1. Create Multiple Templates: Different styles for different content types
  2. Test and Refine: Review the results and adjust template settings
  3. Consistency Matters: Use the same template for similar content
  4. Platform Research: Understand what performs well on each platform
  5. Regular Updates: Revisit your templates as platform algorithms change
